Guillermo del Toro On Pacific Rim 2

Director Guillermo del Toro has once again opened up about the sequel to his kaiju-kicking epic Pacific Rim, and it sounds as though the world may be a slightly different place since the credits rolled.

Revealing it will not be an immediate sequel, the director revealed: “It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after — what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat.  It’s quite a jump.”

Okay, so the world is free of Kaiju? Does that mean no more monster attacks, or showdowns with those hulking Jaeger mechs? Nope.

"The Kaijus are very different," del Toro reveals. So, sounds like they're going to show up in the sequel eventually.

In addition, it sounds as though some human characters from the first film will be showing up in the sequel as well. “I think that two of our main characters like in the first one are Burn [Gorman] and Charlie [Day],” he said, referring to the actors who played Dr. Hermann Gottlieb and Dr. Newton Geiszler, respectively. “They are really, really — I mean, honestly, they are probably the guys I have the most fun writing along with Hannibal Chau [Ron Perlman’s black market dealer] so just from a purely selfish drive, I like writing them.”

     Sounds good to us!

Pacific Rim 2 will hit theaters April 7, 2017.

Nintendo Patents Game Boy Emulator for Phones

Nintendo has recently filed a new patent for a software emulator that could bring its Game Boy games to phones and other devices.

The patent, filed back in June of this year, discusses emulating classic Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance Games on cell phones and the seat-back displays seen on both airplanes and trains.

However, although filed, this in no way means that the video game giant has plans to follow through with the plan at this time. The patent is, in fact, an update of an older one filed by Nintendo back in April 2012. At the least, this newly filed patent would keep the option of bringing classic Game Boy titles, such as Super Mario Land, Tetris and Donkey Kong Country, open to the company.

In addition, Nintendo has admitted, multiple times, that they are not planning on bringing their classic gaming titles to mobile devices anytime soon. Further proof of the company's support for handheld gaming systems over mobile devices can be seen in how Nintendo touted sales of Super Smash Bros. and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for the 3DS.

Still, while this may not be something Nintendo is planning to do in the near future, we hope fans that grew up with those classic handheld systems of the 90's and into the new millennium won't have to wait too long to get these classic games available on their mobile devices.

Jurassic World vs. The Force Awakens

This has been a pretty epic week when it comes to movie trailers. On Tuesday, Universal Pictures surprised fans with a visit to Jurassic World. This will be the fourth installment in the iconic film franchise, one fans have been waiting over a decade for. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer, Jurassic World will be the first new entry in the series since 2001. And by the time it stomps into theaters on June 12th, 2015, it will have been 14 years since fans encountered InGen's dinosaurs.

Then, today, J.J. Abrams and the powers that be at Disney and Lucasfilm beckoned fans back to a galaxy far, far away with a first look at Star Was: The Force Awakens. When it was announced Disney had purchased Lucasfilm in October 2012, fans were not too thrilled - until it was revealed that a slew of new Star Wars films were in development. The Force Awakens will be the firs such film. The seventh chapter in the saga, it will arrive in theaters next December with J.J. Abrams at the helm. It will be the first live-action Star Wars film in 10 years.

Both film belong to two of the most iconic franchises in Hollywood. Each transformed the face of filmmaking in a big way, proving that nothing is impossible. And each has had a significant absence at the cinema of late. Thus, the reaction of fans doesn't really come as that big a surprise.

Fans go crazy for a familiar franchise. End of story.

We've been bombarded with e-mails over the last twelve hours, asking our opinion on which trailer we felt was best.

Honestly, that is one of the hardest questions we've ever had to answer.

Comparing two franchises as iconic as Star Wars and Jurassic Park is a near impossible task. Both have pushed the boundaries of filmmaking time and again. Both are handled by the best and brightest in Hollywood. Both transport moviegoers to worlds of fantastic wonder and terrifying danger. And both have some of the most passionate fans across the globe.

Still, both trailers released this week redefined awesome and proved fans go crazy when it comes to, once again, revisiting a familiar movie universe

One thing both trailers did well was keep key plot points secret. For instance,  we know Jurassic World will feature a new hybrid dinosaur cooked up in a lab. Yet, we know nothing of its appearance or character. In addition, we know The Force Awakens will take place years after the events portrayed in Return of the Jedi. Yet, we have no idea how the galaxy has changed over the last 30 years. We know Jurassic World will take us back to Isla Nublar and that the Millennium Falcon will return in The Force Awakens.  Each film will also feature returning characters and plenty of action, two things fans know each respective franchise is famous for.

We know there will be droids and dinosaurs, scientists and Seth, yet, as far as major plot points and pivotal scenes, it looks like, at least for the time being, these are being played pretty close to the chest. It may annoy some, particularly Star Wars fans, since Jurassic Park fans did get a slightly longer teaser this week, but isn't that really how a trailer should be done? Plenty of great imagery that whets the apatite without giving too much away. All too often, it seems as though trailers for upcoming films nowadays give away much too much

Not so with these two epics. You want to know what they're all about? Better get your butt to a theater!

Both these films will also be bound by classic film scores. Re-watch these two trailers again and try not to get chills listening to the slightly reworked musical scores of the great John Williams.

The point we're trying to make here guys is, while we feel it is impossible to compare the trailers for these two films, we are sure of one thing just by watching them - they're both going to be awesome!

Sure, not every addition to a franchise is a good thing - just look at the likes of Batman and Robin, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Spider-Man 3 - yet, we're pretty certain both Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be two of the biggest films of the2015 movie season.

How can we be so sure? These are both classic, nostalgic film franchises that have proven themselves at the box office time and time again. Whether it's the lush jungles of Isla Nublar, or the barren deserts of Tatooine, fans are willing to return to these iconic locations at a moments notice. From Raptors to Robots, these are the films that belong on the big screen.

And if that is not enough to convince you, one has Chris Pratt working with Velociraptors and the other has a three-bladed lightsaber. If those aren't billion doll ideas, we don't know what is!

Jurassic World: Colin Trevorrow Reveals New Details

Following the early release of the much anticipated Jurassic World trailer, director Colin Trevorrow sat down with Empire and offered commentary for the next installment of the hugely popular film franchise.

In regards to the operational park seen in the trailer - "It opened in 2005," said Trevorrow. "Masrani Global, owned by Irrfan Khan's character, bought InGen after John Hammond's passing with a very earnest mission to realise his dream. We have a website that details all that backstory. It will get more interesting as we get closer to June."

In regards to the gyrosphere ride - "Steven [Spielberg] loves theme park rides. He wanted to create a way for people to get up close and personal with the animals, to make it a self-driving, free-roaming experience. It loads on a track, but once you're out there, you actually get to navigate around the valley."

In regards to the Mosasaur scene - "The idea came out in one of our first meetings - I didn't know if Steven and Frank [Marshall, producer on all the Jurassic Park movies] had considered an underwater reptile, so I pitched the mosasaurus and went off on the idea," he said. "I thought it would be cool if we had this massive animal and the park used one of our most fearsome modern predators as food. There could be a whole other facility where they used shark DNA to mass-produce them to feed the bigger beast. Steven gave me this look like, 'You know I get it, right?' And I sunk a little lower in my chair. And then he said, 'Let's do it'."

In regards to Jurassic World's new hybrid monster - "There is no shortage of awesome dinosaurs." He says, "We could have populated this entire story with new species that haven't been in any of these movies. But this new creation is what gave me a reason to tell another Jurassic Park story. We have the most awe-inspiring creatures to ever walk the earth right in front of us, but for some reason that's not enough. We're not entertained. We're always hungry for the next thing, and those who profit from it are always looking to feed that hunger. The focus groups want something bigger than a T-Rex. And that's what they get."

Will we see a T-rex - "You can bet your ass we will."

When will we see the D-Rex in Full - "Obviously I'd love to hold back as much as possible." He added, "But Universal has to introduce this movie to people all around the world, and in an era where we're contending with superheroes and space epics, marketing has its own set of needs. We're introducing a relatively new idea. No one under 25 has a memory of seeing the original Jurassic Park in a theatre. The last instalment was 14 years ago. We may see little pieces of her as we get closer - in fact, we already have - but I'm confident that we can keep much of that animal under wraps. She's not the only danger. Far from it."

What is Going on With Owen and the Raptors - "I like that people aren't sure what the hell they're looking at," he said. "I was concerned about putting this image in an early trailer, but I love that people are as excited about it as they are. It just reinforces that we all want to see something fresh. Those familiar homage shots in our trailer kind of mask how different this movie is from the others, and I'm relieved that people are embracing the new ideas...Owen's relationship with the raptors is complicated. They aren't friends. These animals are nasty and dangerous and they'll bite your head off if you make the wrong move. But there are men and women out there today who have forged tenuous connections with dangerous predators. That's interesting territory to me."

Sounds good to us! Jurassic World opens its doors June 12th, 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Brian Tee, B.D. Wong, Irrfan Khan, Andy Buckley, Jake Johnson and Omar Sy.
