Archie Comics Is Rebooting Dick Tracy

Grab your fedora and trench coat!

Archie Comics is bringing Dick Tracy back to the printed page with a brand new series focusing on the character's early days as a private investigator.

The monthly series will be co-written by Archie Comics co-president Alex Segura and Hoax Hunters writer Michael Moreci. Riverdale cover artist Thomas Pitilli will handle the art.

Created by Chester Gould, Dick Tracy first appeared back in October 1931, making his debut in the pages of the Detroit Mirror newspaper. The character has also appeared in five movie serials from 1937 through to 1941, six movies — most famously, the1990’s Warren Beatty flick — and three television series.

Speaking with THR Heat Vision, Alex Segura reveals that the idea for the new series manifest itself about six months ago.

"I was thinking about Dick Tracy and how cool it would be to have him back in comic form," he says. "I shot Scott Cameron at Tribune [Content Agency] a quick email asking about the rights, not expecting it to go anywhere, but it turned out the Tribune guys were looking to get Tracy back into comics, so everything rolled from there."

The first issue of Dick Tracy arrives digitally and in comic shops on April 11th.

Complete with a cover from Francesco Francavilla!

Ernest Cline Is Writing A Ready Player One Sequel

Author Ernest Cline has confirmed that he is writing a sequel to Ready Player One.

Cline made the announcement during a Facebook Live event on Sunday.

"I can’t talk about it too much," Cline said. "But there’s no better inspiration for a writer [than] to return to a world they’ve already worked on when they’re watching Steven Spielberg bring that world to life." While he didn't elaborate any further, Cline did admit that he had picked Steven Spielberg's brain regarding what could possibly come next.

Ready Player One was released in 2011 and spent several weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List. Fans and critics have loved it since Day 1, and the book has since been translated into 20 languages. Additionally, Steven Spielberg will bring the world of Ready Player One to the big screen next year with a full-length feature film based off of Cline's book.

The book is set in 2045 and follows young Wade Watts, a teenager and gamer involved in an online treasure hunt within the massive digital world of OASIS. Whoever uncovers the treasure will not only gain complete control of OASIS, but become the richest person alive.

Are you excited about a Ready Player One sequel? We know we sure are!

Ding, Ding! Steven Capel Jr. To Direct Creed Sequel

MGM and Warner Bros. have tapped director Steven Capel Jr. to direct Creed 2.

The film stars Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson.

Stallone had originally considered directing the follow-up, but after talking things over with Jordan and studio executives, they decided to find another director. Following a lengthy search, Jordan and Stallone personally picked Caple to take the reins.

Production is expected to begin in the spring, and it is hoped that Creed director Ryan Coogler will join the project as an executive producer following his work on Black Panther.

Capel will direct from a screenplay penned by Stallone and Cheo Hodari Coker.

Michael B. Jordan took to Twitter earlier today to express his excitement.

Creed 2 follows Adonis Creed’s life inside and outside of the ring as he deals with new-found fame, issues with his family, and his continuing quest to become a champion.

Production kicks off in Philadelphia this coming March.

The film hits theaters on November 21st, 2018.

Review: Dark Horse - Aliens: Dead Orbit #4

The incredibly claustrophobic final issue of James Stokoe's Aliens: Dead Orbit will finally arrive on newsstands this week, and it's one that fans of this iconic franchise will want to grab!

As time runs out onboard the dilapidated space station, Wascylewski finds himself completely alone - save for a pair of deadly Xenomorphs that will stop at nothing until he's dead. In one final attempt to escape, our hero prepares to blow it all to Hell using some of the station's reserve oxygen tanks. Sure, he might die, but anything is better than serving as an incubator for the vicious spawn of these mindless bugs, right? Wassy certainly seems to think so.

Stokoe then gives us panel upon panel of tense, claustrophobic imagery that calls to mind the final act of Ridley Scott's original Alien. The creatures emerge from the vents and proceed to make quick work of Wascylewski's crew - until one of his desperate comrades panics and uses explosive charges to end the situation once and for all. The force of the explosion sends Wascylewski into the cold, dark vacuum of space - our hero only surviving thanks to some quick thinking that sees him activating his suits magnetic boots and clinging to the side of the haul.

The issue culminates with a tense standoff outside of the space station between our hero and one of the creatures - a standoff that ends with Wascylewski using one of the remaining oxygen tanks to engulfe the Alien in flames and send it hurtling through the bleakness of space.

The issue ends with Wassy trudging back within the remains of the dilapidated space station to catch his breath and relax - with a well deserved cigarette. However, as with Scott's original film, it doesn't take long to see that the sole survivor of this tale may find himself facing a whole new problem - that of getting off the space station and being rescued following his pulse-pounding ordeal.

Despite this, Wascylewski is more than happy to just kick back and catch his breath. Here's just hoping someone comes along and picks him up before his oxygen runs out.

To sum things up, James Stokoe knows his Aliens. He's taken everything that fans loved about the original film - from the pulse-pounding tension to the claustrophobic imagery - and crafted a tale that does right by the 1979 classic. It's just such a shame that we're not getting Alien tales of this caliber on the big screen anymore!

Please, Dark Horse Comics, don't wait too long to bring Mr. Stokoe back to your Aliens Universe.

Rating: 5/5 - "Aliens: Dead Orbit packs on the action and does right by the 1979 film in such a perfect way that it has us hungering for the days of truly great Aliens films."

Aliens: Dead Orbit #4 lands in comic shops this Wednesday, December 13th.

Until next time, Infinite Earths fans!
