When Jurassic World became one of the biggest movies in box office history during the summer of 2015, Colin Trevorrow quickly became one of the most sought after directors in the industry.
Currently, Trevorrow has The Book Of Henry slated to hit theatres next week and he'll be transporting fans back to a galaxy far, far away in 2019 with Star Wars: Episode IX. However, while his schedule is rather packed, the director is still remaining closely involved with Universal's still officially untitled Jurassic World 2.
Speaking with our friends over at ComingSoon, Trevorrow discussed his involvement with the highly anticipated sequel, helmed this time around by J.A. Bayona.
"That script had to be delivered for a February shoot," Trevorrow revealed. "And we had to think of ‘Star Wars’ somewhat simultaneously… While we were in the early stages of story on Star Wars, we shot Jurassic at Pinewood. Now, we’re wrapping in about a month and everyone is going to Hawaii."
Now serving as an executive producer on the film, Trevorrow also provided the screenplay for the project with writing partner Derek Connelly. Additionally, he reveals that his level of dedication on the sequel ended up being even more than he initially expected.
"Jurassic’ ended up taking up more time and attention than I expected just because I care about it so much," he says. "I surprised myself by how much I wanted to be there for J.A. [Bayona], just as a writer. I remember directing a ‘Jurassic Park’ movie and how much I would have loved to have a writer to think about the dailies and wonder what alterations we could make that would make it that much more effective. I was there with him every day to try and provide something for him that I didn’t have myself."
Well, we're sure that the studio is glad that Trevorrow is this closely tied to the Jurassic World sequel. He restarted this billion dollar franchise with a bang in 2015 after all, so clearly he knows a thing or two about this iconic and much-loved property.
Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, B.D. Wong, Ted Levine, James Cromwell, Raff Spall, Toby Jones and Justice Smith, Jurassic World 2 will stomp into theatres across the world on June 22, 2018.
